Global Climate Week in Funchal, Madeira

Global Climate Week in Funchal included a conference on “Water Loss Reduction in Distributor Systems in a Climate Change context”, featuring a lecture by Rui Silva Santos.

Rui is a national expert on water and sanitation networks, and an expert involved in the European project REDAWN (Reducing Energy Dependency in Atlantic Area Water Networks).

Funchal City Council joined the Global Week for Climate, from 23-27 September 2019. The Deputy Mayor, Idalina Perestrelo, who is responsible for the Environment, raised the Earth Flag in the City Hall, a symbolic moment in order to alert to the problems of climate change.

Idalina Perestrelo stressed at the time the need to continue “encouraging citizens to engage in sustainable behavior through all kinds of awareness that we can. The planet is in a climate emergency and this has been a cause to which the Municipality has given special attention, working hard in the field of environmental education, but this is not just a struggle of the institutions, it has to be a struggle of all of us."
