The Water Efficiency Conference was held online on 3 & 4 September 2020. 4th EWaS International Conference: Valuing the "Water, Carbon, Ecological" footprints of human activities

The 4th EWaS International Conference was organised by the University of Thessaly, Civil Engineering Department. The conference aimed to bring together scientists dealing with challenges encountered throughout the entire water cycle.

Maria Cristina Morani and Oreste Fecarrotta from REDAWN partners University of Naples (UNINA) presented their papers on Optimal Regulation of Variable Speed Pumps in Sewer Systems and A New Preliminary Model to Optimize PATs Location in a Water Distribution Network

Portugal National Day of Water 2019 - Conference on renewable energy

To celebrate the National Day of Water in Portugal, APREN and IST-Lisboa held a conference featuring several speakers on the theme of renewable energy and water.  This featured REDAWN project contributor Professor Helena Ramos of IST-Lisboa, who delivered a presentation on "Water-based micro-hydro and pumped storage hybrid solutions".

The celebration of this date aimed to promote reflection on the importance of our water resources, as well as their management at national level, as part of a climate change scenario and an energy transition that is intended to be effective and consequent.

International Conference on Green Construction

Our partners at Trinity College Dublin gave a presentation for the International Conference on Green Construction, held in Cordoba, Seville. 

Miguel Crespo Cachon detailed the design and viability study which was completed for our demonstration site piloting MHP technology in irrigation networks. 

Conference: Micro hydraulic power: sustainable solutions in urban areas

REDAWN partners FAEN took part in a session at this conference focused on the possibilities of harnessing hydraulic power in urban areas for the general public.

The conference was organised by Botánico of Gijón in the framework of “Science Week”, whose main aim is to make Science and Technology more attractive to the General Public.

During the session FAEN presented the REDAWN project, objectives and actions, and explained the technology of PATs. At the end of the speeches there was a very active debate where people showed a great interest for PATs and they proposed some applications.

Speakers included Mr. Jose Luis Suarez Sierra, PhD. Professor in Civil Work Department in University of Oviedo and CEO Grupo Tactica; Mr. Vidal Gago CEO of the Municipal Water Company of Gijón and Mr. Indalecio González Fernández, Head of the Renewable Energies Department of FAEN.

WATEF conference 2018

REDAWN featured in special sessions at the Water Efficiency Network's conference; the Future of Water in Europe: Local, regional and global best practice.  This took place in Aveiro, Portugal from 5-7 September.

International Research Conference on Sustainable Energy, Engineering, Materials and Environment

Partners from the REDAWN project took part with promoters of small hydropower stations to discuss innovations from the latest work on harvesting clean energy from water networks.

The conference was organised by Fundación Asturiana de la Energía (FAEN) at the University of Mieres, in the framework of the International Research Conference on Sustainable Energy, Engineering, Materials and Environment.

During the session REDAWN partners showed the potential and possibilities of installing micro hydropower plants in water networks and promoters presented their experiences in real projects, indicating barriers, explaining benefits and telling stories.

Speakers were Mr. Daniel Álvarez Díaz. Researcher in Research Centre Prodintec; Jose Luis Suarez Sierra, PhD. Professor in Civil Work Department in University of Oviedo and CEO Grupo Tactica; and the partners of the REDAWN project Mrs. Helena Margarida Machado da Silva Ramos Professor in Technical University of Lisbon and Jorge García Morillo. Professor in Hydraulic Engineering Department – University of Cordoba. The chairman of the session was Mr. Indalecio González Fernández, Head of the Renewable Energies Department of FAEN

EWaS3 International Conference

Dr Armando Carravetta of the University of Napoli presented his work on the project; developing design guidelines for the installation of Pump-as-Turbines (PAT) in water networks as well as development of design supporting tools to optimise energy recovery.

Our partners from Trinity College Dublin also presented at the conference on real-world case studies of the technology in Southern Spain.

REDAWN at 5° IAHR Europe Congress

The 5° IAHR Europe Congress brought together the hydraulic community in Trento, Italy to discuss new challanges in hydraulic and engineering. REDAWN presented at the congress with a stand. In addition, the REDAWN project was discussed in the masterclass 'New challenges in water supply network' with Masters Armando Carravetta and Helena M. Ramos.

Environ2018 conference

Environ is the longest running and largest forum for environmental researchers in Ireland with over 275 delegates attending the event annually. The 2018 colloquium theme was "Arriving at a Sustainable Future".  REDAWN partners presented two posters at the conference.
