Dr Armando Carravetta of the University of Napoli will be presenting his work on the project; developing design guidelines for the installation of Pump-as-Turbines (PAT) in water networks as well as development of design supporting tools to optimise energy recovery.

Our partners from Trinity College Dublin will also be presenting at the conference on real-world case studies of the technology in Southern Spain.

International Research Conference on Sustainable Energy, Engineering, Materials and Environment

Event Date:
Wednesday 25 July 2018 to Friday 27 July 2018

Partners from the REDAWN project took part with promoters of small hydropower stations to discuss innovations from the latest work on harvesting clean energy from water networks.

The conference was organized by Fundación Asturiana de la Energía (FAEN) at the University of Mieres, in the framework of the International Research Conference on Sustainable Energy, Engineering, Materials and Environment.

During the session REDAWN partners could show the potential and possibilities of installing micro hydropower plants in  water networks and promoters presented their experiences in real projects, indicating barriers, explaining benefits and telling stories.

Speakers were Mr. Daniel Álvarez Díaz. Researcher in Research Centre Prodintec; Jose Luis Suarez Sierra, PhD. Professor in Civil Work Department in University of Oviedo and CEO Grupo Tactica; and the partners of the REDAWN project Mrs. Helena Margarida Machado da Silva Ramos Professor in Technical University of Lisbon and Jorge García Morillo. Thursday 11 October 2018

All partners from the REDAWN project will be visiting the HeLab Facility at University of Naples Federico II this autumn.

The Hydro Energy Laboratory (HELab) is a unique third party laboratory for hydro-mechanical group qualification test, included in the new standard EN16480, according to directives 2005/32/EC and 2009/125/EC. The lab is provided with three test rig for pumps of different size, motor and groups. An automatic control system allow fast measurements of all, hydraulic, mechanical and electric parameters. HELab competencies refer to electro-pump effociency, energy production, fluid mechanics, prototipation and tecnology transfer.

The laboratory is managed by Professor Armando Carravetta, one of our REDAWN partners.
