WP5: Economic/ Environmental Impact

WP5: Economic/ Environmental Impact

Work package 5:  Economic/ Environmental Impact

LEAD: FAEN

WP5 will comprise quantification of the potential economic and environmental impact of the exploitation of the resources identified in WP4. This work will be led by FAEN with the assistance of TCD and Hidro.

The work will include the impact of MHP energy recovery on the operating cost of water supply, waste water treatment, crop irrigation, and process industry. The work will also include the economic feasibility assessment of converting the available resources to power outputs in terms of return on investment and annual income. The impact of the energy production on local energy demands will also be included from an economic impact perspective

Work will also include an assessment of the potential reduction in CO2 emissions from the exploitation of the WP4 resources. This offset CO2 will be placed in the context of water industry targets and EU level climate change commitments.

WP5 - Economic and Environmental Impact outputs

REDAWN has quantified the economic potential and environmental impact of implementing micro hydropower in water networks across the Atlantic Area. This includes the impact of MHP energy recovery on the operating cost of water supply, wastewater treatment, crop irrigation and process industry. REDAWN has also produced the economic feasibility assessment of converting the available resources to power outputs in terms of return on investment and annual income.
